"Prudent people are very happy,'tis an exceeding fine thing, thats certain, but I was born without it, and shall retain to my day of death the humor of saying what I think". ~ Mary Wartley Montaque

Thought:

There are two sides of the coin pertaining to loneliness. People react to loneliness in one of two ways:(1) something that makes them suffer and causes pain or (2) to appreciate it and enjoy it. There are two paths you may follow (1) live your life in loneliness, frustrated and empty or (2) live it in happiness and optimism.
Our times of solitude can be opportunities to discover our individuality, we learn more about ourselves and to begin to accept ourselves. Our times of silent reflection can teach us so much if only we would let it. We can find contentment when we find know reason for our lives and understand who we really are.

Welcome 2004

3/21/043

Don't you just hate it when your co-workers come in
with a foul look on their face. I see one every day. Must be a terrible thing to get up, feel and act like one hates the world every day. Not nice to be rude. God don't like ugly.

I just love to watch people, it provides me with so much understanding and insight. I think watching people is my favorite hobby. They just don't know how much they give away.

Look around you. There is so much to give to others and take for yourself. Plenty for all. No need to be selfish. ~ Deborah Mason 2003

Those who hold grudges may find their minds distracted and angry. Let go of the past, live for today and look forward to the future. Life is too short for anger, grudges, pettiness. ~ Deborah Mason 2003

"The key to happiness lies within you. No material thing or any person can make you happy. Only you. You must love yourself before being able to love anything else or anyone else." ~ Deborah Mason 2003

"As a man thinketh in his heart, so he is." ~ Proverbs 23:7

"Those who refuse to examine their thoughts, opinions, and actions are damned to live within the prison of their own ignorance." ~ Rich Petteruti

It is now 2004 a brand new year. Let us make realistic, attainable resolutions and strive to keep them. May this year be better than the last for you. I know I have made some resolutions and if I remind myself often I can keep them. I will strive to be a better person in this world of uncertainty. I will let go of the past and look forward to what the future brings me and try to make the best of everything that comes my way. I know with God by my  side I can and will have a happy life and my needs will be tended to. What resolutions do you have for yourself?

The power of prayer is an awesome thing. If you don't believe it, pray for something and wait for the answer. It might not come immediately and not in the way you expect but, the answer will come, you just have to be aware and see it. God works in mysterious ways. Believe!

"He who hears only what he chooses to hear deserves to hear what he hears."  ~ Deborah Mason

"It's a wise man who profits by his own experience, but it's a good deal wiser one who lets the rattle snake bite the other fellow." ~ Josh Billings

Who are you, what are you, where are you? Be who you want to be. Don't let anyone else try to make you into anything that they want. Are you who you want to be? Find yourself and live your life your way. After all, It is your life, isn't it? ` Deborah Mason

"Limitations come from within. It's up to you whether you want to move forward or stay where you are." ~ Deborah Mason 2001

Community Challenge

Encouragement for children and teens section:

"To discipline and reprimand a child produces
wisdom, but a mother is disgraced by an un-
disciplined child." ~ Proverbs 29:15

A child is a gift from God to be loved, cherished, cared for, nourished and encouraged.
Encouragement given to our young now, could mean the beginning of their future.-Deborah Mason 2001

Be a mentor for a child who only has one parent and that parent has to work late.
Be a mentor for latchkey kids in need.
check with your local schools.

Ideas for spending time with a child:
Take a child to:
The movies, ball games, bowling, out to dinner, museums,
parks, fishing, swimming, camping, hiking, share your talents with them(cooking, baking, drawing, computer, foreign language, collecting, sewing, math, history,
gardening, etc.), zoos, library.
Think about it.

Take a young person to a job fair.
Invite a child or teen to your place of work.
Show and tell them what is out there for them, offer encouragement for their future. Help them. Helping your child should be a never ending thing, even after they grow up and leave home to be on their own. Know the difference between helping, offering, and giving advice, knowledge, wisdom and trying to run their lives. There is a huge difference there.

Ideas for parents (if you have latch key kids)

During the time kids are alone:
1. Keep a list of emergency numbers by the phone.
2. Emphasize locking the doors.
3. Do homework during this time(you can check it later).
4. List a few chores to be done inside at this time.
5. Have a list of projects or fun things to do on the fridge.
6. Make a habit of calling to check on them during their time alone.
7. Emphasize often "Do not open the door for anyone".
8. Emphasize "not talking on the phone" to anyone they don't know. Tell them not to let anyone know they are home alone. You only can tell a trusted family member or trusted neighbor to keep watch on the house.
9. Get an answering machine so they can moniter callers and won't have to answer the phone unless they know who it is.
10. Leave ready made sandwiches and snacks for them, so they won't try to cook anything.
11. If there is a computer in the house(on-line) and they know how to use it, put blocks on inappropriate channels(chat rooms, etc.) at least until you get home.
12. Install a peephole in the front and back doors if they are solid doors.
13. Hang curtains on doors that have glass panes in them so strangers can't see inside.
14. Have a list of all emergency, family , and neighbors numbers
by each phone.

Remember when the sun goes down, where are your children? Where did they tell you they would be? Where do you think they are? It does not hurt to check to give one peace of mind. Our children are the most valuable thing we have.

Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent

"Find and be at peace with yourself. Anxiety wrecks the mind and soul." ~ Deborah Mason

Community Fund raising:

Ideas to raise money for schools, churches, charities, clubs, etc.

1. Bake sale - Have everyone possible of your group, friends or committee to bake most popular items and donate them to the cause.
Popular items: Cakes, pies, brownies, muffins, tarts, fruit filled thumb-print cookies, raisin bread, cupcakes.

2. Car wash - Get a business in the community to let you use a little corner of their lot or(if you can) use the church or school parking lot. Everybody likes a clean car and most would rather someone else do it.

3. When you have your spring or Fall festival get an area beautician or barber to donate some of their time to give trims and shape-ups at the events.

4. Handmade items such as colorful pot holders, embroidered dish or hand towels are good selling items.

5. Have a homemade stew sale, cook it at the site of the fund-raising need.

6. Have hand made items such as a quilt or crocheted afghan or wooden hand made items to auction or raffle off.

7. Ask your local fire dept. would they bring the fire truck to your bizzare, fall festival, charity raising etc, and take childrens pictures sitting in the fire truck or standing by it with the fire helmet on for a price(perhaps $.50 to $1.00).

8. Have people you know or put a poster up prior to the event to have their unwanted or used books donated to the fund raiser and put a modest price on them. People who like to read will buy them.

9. A fund raising dance.

10. Assign a room or booth for people to have a face make-over or to have their nails filed, buffed and polished.

11. If the weather is hot, make sure you have plenty of lemon-ade for sale. People love lemon-ade.

12. Have local artist bring their creations in to set up in a room to be viewed. Good publicity for them and you could charge a small fee for entrance. The local artists might sell a few pieces there too.

13. Have a hotdog or pie eating contest. $ to enter.

14. Have a judging contest. Each person entering their craft, food or art pay a $ or two entry fee. Have your ribbons ready.

15. Have a fortune telling spot set up and charge a small fee for this entertainment.

16. Have a "Helium Balloon" booth set up. Have paper and pencils available for people to put messages in balloons, then blow them up with the helium and turn them loose to see how far they will travel.

17. Sell fragrant candles. Almost everyone likes candles for the home.

More to come later.

Fish Tank Ideas:

1. When deep cleaning a tank, cleaning and removing the little gravel or little rocks can be a lot of work. Remove all little gravel and replace with River stones, clear colored marbles or white rocks. Looks prettier.

2. Having trouble keeping your live or artificial plants grounded? Tie a heavy fishing sinker to the bottom of the plant with fishing line, then put your rocks, stones or marbles around the bottom and it will stay put.

3. Having trouble with algae? Snails will do the trick. I have 7 snails in my tank.
Also, keep your tank out of direct light. If you have it in front of a window. Move it.

4. Do not over feed your fish. Do not put any more food in the tank than your fish can consume in 5 minutes. Extra food or over feeding will make your tank water dark and murky. Doesn't do the fish much good either.

"Do not accept who you are unless that is who you want to be." ~ Uknown

To constantly dwell upon the past is a waste of time. The past is gone and cannot be changed. To dwell upon the future is not good either, for the future has not arrived yet. Dwell upon today(the present), do all you can do, do right, be kind, be patient, be mindful and the future will be taken care of. However "Hope" gives us something for the future to bring.

THOUGHT:

One of the secrets of life seems to involve resistance.
The more we accept life as it is..the happier we will be.
Conversely, the more we resist "what is", the more burdened we become. There is evidence of this everywhere we look. If we demand that life be different, some how better, we are in for a long journey. Yet, when we go "with the flow", accept life as it is, the ride is an awesome adventure.
